Which Cities are the Most Likely to Get an NBA Team?
Ranking the cities who are most likely to get an NBA team
Seattle, Washington
The Seattle SuperSonics were a very popular team back in the day. Before becoming the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008, the Sonics had some great players including a young Kevin Durant. I think the NBA should bring back the Sonics because they can increase the popularity of the NBA and there will be more NBA fans in Seattle.
Las Vegas, Nevada
There should be a team in Vegas. There are already arenas built in the city, and having a team in Vegas would also increase the amount of fans because NBA fans in Vegas would now get an NBA team along with an NFL and NHL franchise. Vegas is known for being a great place to bet, with many casinos, and i’m sure people will love to bet on their Las Vegas NBA team.
Mexico City, Mexico
Mexico City already has NBA games hosted. But what about their own team? It’s possible. Not only are there arenas and stadiums already in Mexico City, but this would majorly increase the NBA’s popularity with the idea of expanding and having a second different country other than the U.S. to join the league would be a great idea in my opinion.
Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore has a football team, but thats basically it. I don’t see this happening very soon, but it sure can happen in the next decade or so. Maryland should have an NBA team because there aren’t many sports teams in the state. Plus, other states that are near Maryland that also are without an NBA franchise could root for the Baltimore NBA team.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
A team in Pittsburgh is possible. Though there are the 76ers in Philadelphia, a second Pennsylvania basketball team would give Philly a rival. That would be good for the NBA because having two teams or more in one state would mean more rivals and competition because i’m positive that the feeling of beating your worst enemy is a great one, especially on the court.
Cincinnati Ohio
Ohio has the Cavaliers, Indiana has the Pacers, and Illinois has the Bulls. A second team in Ohio would mean yes, more rivals, but there are states right next to it with NBA teams as well. I don’t think there should be more NBA teams in Ohio, because of the states that are close by. Cincinnati does have the Bengals and other good sports teams like their MLS team however, and Ohio already has an NBA team.
San Diego, California
Another squad in California wouldn’t be the best. But, San Diego is a great city and should have an NBA team. I think there might be one some day, but it isn’t very likely there will be one in the next decade.
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
There is already a team in Canada, the Raptors. What about another one? Not a bad idea in my opinion. In the next few decades, I predict that the NBA will expand to more and more countries and Canada may get some more NBA teams. With Vancouver not having one anymore, I think Montreal should get one which may lead to Vancouver finally getting a franchise again as well. Having two or more teams in Canada would again for the millionth time, increase the popularity and fans.
Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville has a football team, a hockey team, a soccer team, but what about a second basketball team in the state of Tennessee? There already is one in Memphis, but one in Nashville would be cool too. Tennessee has many sports teams and it may be a better idea for other states with not as many to get more. I don’t see Nashville getting a franchise in the next few decades, but it is a long time away and I may be wrong.
Kansas City, Missouri
Kansas City has a great football team, the Chiefs. They also have the Royals in the MLB, and other teams as well. If a city in Missouri were to get an NBA team, I think it would be St. Louis, but just because Kansas City has better sports teams, I put them at the ten spot because why not have another sports team in your state.
Other Teams that may get an NBA franchise in the future
Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada
The Grizzlies moved to Memphis quite a while ago, and we haven’t seen a Vancouver team since. Montreal has a better shot at getting an NBA team than Vancouver, and Toronto already has one. This move isn’t very likely.
Honolulu, Hawaii
It would be kind of hard to fly to Honolulu because its on an island and it takes a long time, making Honolulu have a huge home court advantage. I don’t see this happening, but Honolulu is a beautiful city and I think a Hawaii basketball team would be awesome.
St. Louis, Missouri
If Kansas City gets a franchise, I don’t think St. Louis would get one. That’s why I don’t have them in my top ten and don’t think its likely for St. Louis to get a franchise anytime soon if the NBA adds one in Kansas City.
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Virginia doesn’t have many sports teams. I’m guessing they wont get a team for the next few decades due to the NBA not deciding to have a franchise there already.
Louisville, Kentucky
Kentucky doesn’t have major sports teams like Virginia. Louisville would be the only Kentucky team in the NBA and I think the other cities above have a much higher chance to get a team than Louisville.
New Jersey
New Jersey is right next to New York, which has two NBA squads. The Nets used to play in New Jersey until they moved in 2012 to Brooklyn. I don’t think New Jersey will get an NBA franchise anytime soon.
Jacksonville, Florida
Florida already has the Magic and the Heat, plus the NBA may add a team in Tampa possibly. I don’t see a Florida team being added to the NBA for a while, because there are already two.
Paris, France
Having a team in Paris would be pretty impossible. You would need to fly all the way to Europe and it would be hard for both the Paris team and the other team facing them. Paris does host some NBA games during the season, but I predict that Paris wont get one for the next 30-40 years.
