Redick has definitely shot up the list here — he was simply last due to the fact that he hadn’t stepped foot on the court as a coach yet. He’s been quite impressive (and, as you said, is likely near or in the top 10).
I think Redick has already surprised many people, including me, a passionate Lakers fan. I predicted he would be top 15 by the end of the season, but not top 10 already. I'm surprised by his success. Doc is still a top 25 coach I think because it's not like his Bucks are THAT bad. I mean, sure, they are not living up to their expectations and have certainly under performed, however we all knew Milwaukee isn't a good fit with him. Jordi Fernandez is a great coach, I am surprised the Nets are this good without Bridges, I don't think they will make the playoffs. Jordi's a good coach.
As a Blazers fan, Billups is too high lol. I distinctly remember texting my brother-in-law after a game early in year two of his reign, “I don’t think Billups can coach.” I still stick to that haha.
Good stuff! Mosley will be top-8 by season's end, IMO (actually, I think he might already be there.) Let me know if you'd like to do a guest post on my sports card Substack! We'd love some rookie rankings or something similar!
Beast of an article — and full of insight. Personally, I'm bullish on JJ Redick, but I understand his resume (i.e. no resume at all) doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out!
Interesting list that I largely agree with. A few issues.
The Budenholzer (#20) over Doc Rivers (#24) is spot on and more than a little embarrassing in Milwaukee. At least Adrian Griffin isn't higher. If I were a Bucks fan, the words "Doc Rivers is ready to shake things up" would not give me any comfort. Doc is like the high school gym teacher rolling out basketballs for the class as he heads for the teacher's lounge. Shaking things up is just not in his makeup. Long year in Cream City.
Joe Mazzulla at #5 and higher than Udoka (#13)? Yep. Take that you know nothing pundits who demanded his firing two years ago. Now get busy deleting all those bad take tweets so you can pretend you never said it.
Seeing Popovich and Kerr this high on the list engenders the exact same feeling I had upon hearing that The Dave Clark Five just got inducted into the the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the explanation that "they were influential in the 60s." To be this high on the list you can't be inching towards Spinal Tap's "where are they now? file."
Do you want a do-over on this? Redick is already top ten. Jordi Fernandez not far behind. Doc is DFL without question!

Doc is…yeah.😅

Thanks for a great read.
